Wallpapering your wall with non-woven wallpaper yourself? Great idea! Non-woven wallpaper is sturdy, easy to apply and you don’t need a pasting table. In this blog, we explain step by step how to do it. We also link to a handy video from GAMMA where you can see exactly how it works.
What do you need for wallpapering?
Before you begin, it’s smart to get your materials ready. You’ll need:
- Non-woven wallpaper
- Non-woven wallpaper paste
- Spirit level, pencil and wallpaper ruler
- Wallpaper smoother and seam roller
- Snap-off knife and scissors
- Slightly damp cloth
- Optionally a stepladder
Wallpapering with non-woven wallpaper in 7 steps
- Preparation: Switch off the electricity, remove cover plates and repair any unevenness in the wall.
- Draw a plumb line: Make sure your first strip hangs straight by drawing a straight line with a spirit level.
- Apply paste: Apply non-woven wallpaper paste directly to the wall.
- Hang the first strip: Hang along the plumb line and smooth with a smoother and cloth.
- Next strips: Join them neatly and pay attention to the pattern with patterned wallpaper.
- Last strip: Cut to size and trim neatly with a sharp knife.
- Sockets: Wallpaper over them and then carefully cut out the centre.

Tip: check the batch number of your wallpaper
Always check that all wallpaper rolls have the same batch number. This prevents colour differences on the wall. If the rolls don’t go next to each other, this isn’t a problem. For example, if they’re on opposite walls in the same room, it doesn’t matter.
